Achieving Flow State in the Remote Work Environment
By Bill Dolan, CMB
Figure Out How You Should Get into a State of Flow
A “flow state” is technically defined as an optimal state of consciousness when we feel our best and perform our best. It’s when we are locked in and totally focused on something without any concept of time.
In a 10-year study by McKinsey, researchers found that top executives reported being five times more productive in “flow”.
For me, I call it the “zone”, so just think about how significant 5X gain in productivity would be for your workweek. If you could find “flow” on a Monday, conceivably, you could get as much productivity done as your peers do in a full week.
However, the number one culprit that cramps your flow state are distractions. Did you know that the average employee gets interrupted 50-60 times per day and nearly 80% of these interruptions are un- important? Venture capitalist, Sam Altman has called “digital distraction” one of the great mental health crisis of our time.
All the digital notifications and distractions that arise throughout the day keep us from reaching a state of deep focus, so eliminate them as much as you possibly can.

Realizing that most of you are in your own current crisis with the lowest rates and highest volumes in history, attempting to close loans as quickly as humanly possible, keep in mind that HMDA and the new URLA 1003 forms are not going away and also need attention.
