A recent (September 2023) article by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) highlighted two prominent trends that have emerged and are reshaping the role of HR leaders as they support all levels of their organization.

Trend 1: HR Leaders Shaping Organizational Strategy:

HR leaders are increasingly influencing organizational strategy and aligning workforce practices with business objectives. They have become indispensable internal strategic partners for managers at all levels in responding to new challenges ranging from humanizing an increasingly digital workplace, striking a balance between employee engagement and well-being, closing leadership competency gaps, and attracting and retaining talent.

Trend #2: The New Core Competency of Dynamic Leadership Range:

The article also introduced a new critical competency called Dynamic Leadership Range. Borrowed from the world of photography, 'dynamic range' refers to a leader's willingness and ability to stretch beyond their comfort zones, tackling complex challenges and high-stakes decision-making while seamlessly shifting back to a mindset focused on attention to detail and the meticulous execution of new initiatives.

As HR leaders play this dual role of strategist and executor, they must simultaneously support other leaders within their organizations to build and foster the same competency.
